Detroit rapper Skilla Baby is speaking out publicly for the first time since being shot multiple times in what many believe was a targeted drive-by attack in his hometown.

In a heartfelt video posted to his social media, Skilla Baby thanked fans for their prayers and support while expressing deep faith in God’s protection during the terrifying ordeal.

“Thank y’all for y’all prayers and y’all concerns,” he began. “All praise to the Most High, my Lord and Savior, for covering me while I was in a bad situation. I know He don’t make mistakes, so I will never ask Him why — never question my Lord and Savior. I’m a soldier… I keep it solid.”

He captioned the video with a message of resilience and gratitude:

“Thank you to everybody for y’all prayers. I’m good mentally and I know God wouldn’t put me through nothing I can’t handle. We back… Again, thank you to my fans, family, and everybody else for all the support. I’m nothing without y’all! But y’all know I’m a soldier.”

The message comes nearly a month after the shooting, in which Skilla Baby was struck three times when a gunman reportedly fired 20 rounds at his vehicle. Miraculously, he survived the attack and is now on the road to recovery.

On Wednesday, June 4, a suspect was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. As of now, charges have not been formally announced.

Fans and fellow artists have continued to rally around the Detroit native, praising his strength and determination in the face of adversity.
