R. Kelly’s legal team is speaking out following the singer’s recent health scare and abrupt return to prison, telling TMZ that he is “scared for his life” and emotionally shaken after what they describe as a serious medical crisis behind bars.

Attorney Nicole Blank Becker told TMZ that Kelly broke down in tears several times during a recent phone call. She says the 57-year-old singer is in fear for both his health and safety after allegedly overdosing on medication while in prison custody and then being rushed to the hospital.

“He’s emotional, and he cried intermittently on the phone call,” Becker said. “Again, out of fear for his life.”
While hospitalized, doctors reportedly told Kelly he would need surgery for blood clots and would likely remain in the hospital for two weeks to receive treatment. But according to his attorneys, prison officials arrived shortly after and transported him back behind bars—abruptly ending any plans for surgery or follow-up care.

“The next thing he knows, he is whisked out of the hospital, back in the SHU [Special Housing Unit], never to see the doctor again,” Becker explained. “Whether you like R. Kelly or not, what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong — he’s a human being who needs medical attention immediately.”

Kelly’s other attorney, Beau Brindley, echoed her concerns, stating that the singer is not receiving the critical care he needs.

“Robert is suffering,” Brindley said. “He’s still not getting his blood thinners. He’s receiving no treatment for blood clots whatsoever despite being diagnosed in the hospital.”

As of now, there has been no official response from prison officials regarding the allegations.

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering. His legal team has continued to maintain his innocence and has filed multiple appeals in an effort to overturn his conviction.
