Attorneys for disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly allege that his recent overdose in prison was not accidental—but an attempted murder orchestrated by prison staff.

According to a court filing submitted on June 17, Kelly’s legal team claims that he was given an “overdose quantity” of anxiety and sleep medication on June 12, far beyond his normal dosage. The next day, the singer reportedly began losing vision, collapsed in his cell, and ultimately lost consciousness.

“He started to see black spots in his vision. Mr. Kelly tried to get up, but fell to the ground,” the filing states. “He crawled to the door of the cell and lost consciousness.”

Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, released a statement reiterating the seriousness of the incident and accusing the Bureau of Prisons of trying to kill his client.

“For those who responded with skepticism about whether Bureau of Prisons officers would really engage in a plot to kill R. Kelly, those prison officials have now removed all doubt,” Brindley said. “They want R. Kelly dead before the crimes committed against him in his cases are exposed.”

Brindley, who has previously sought a pardon from President Donald Trump, once again appealed directly to him, stating, “It is this immediate and imminent threat that compels us again to seek the intervention of President Trump. The courts do not move as quickly as the efforts to kill this man. President Trump may be the only person who can save the life of R. Kelly.”

The attorney also claimed that Kelly was forcibly removed from a hospital room following a diagnosis of blood clots in his lungs—despite doctors recommending a two-week hospitalization for surgery.

“Within an hour, officers with guns came into his hospital room and removed him,” Brindley stated. “His life is in jeopardy right now because the Bureau of Prisons denied him necessary surgery to clear clots from his lungs. He could die from this condition, and they are letting it happen.”
