On Tuesday (June 10), R. Kelly’s attorney held a press conference calling on President Trump to intervene in what they allege is a plot to kill the disgraced R&B singer while he serves his prison sentence in North Carolina.

Attorney Beau Brindley, who represents Kelly, claimed during the briefing that the singer's life is in imminent danger due to what he described as a conspiracy involving officials within the federal prison system.

"R. Kelly’s life is now threatened because of his willingness to fight and to expose the very kind of corruption that President Trump has been fighting and standing up to since the day he took that office,” Brindley said. “We will ask President Trump to help us.”

Brindley also stated that Kelly’s team is bypassing traditional legal channels due to the urgency of the situation. “We are seeking a conversation with the president, because R. Kelly does not have the time, with his life in danger, to go through the normal channels,” he explained. “We are seeking talks with the White House. We are seeking talks with everybody who is willing to help us.”

According to Brindley, a Bureau of Prisons official recently warned him that Kelly is unsafe in custody and advised that the singer avoid the prison mess hall due to concerns that his food might be poisoned.

Adding to the alarming claims, Brindley alleged that a fellow inmate — reportedly a member of the Aryan Brotherhood — confessed to being sent to the facility by prison officials with the intent to kill Kelly.

As of now, no federal agency has responded publicly to these allegations, and it's unclear whether Trump or his representatives have acknowledged the request for intervention.
