Amber Rose appeared on  NewsNation’s CUOMO with Chris Cuomo this week, where she opened up about her vocal support for Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in connection to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. During her appearance, Rose argued that Lanez is innocent and called for a pardon from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“I’m advocating for Tory Lanez because the evidence shows that he’s innocent,” Rose told host Chris Cuomo. “He deserves to be pardoned by Governor Gavin Newsom. He’s 100 percent exonerated from the gun, and for that alone, he should be home with his family.”

Cuomo pushed back, referencing the evidence used in Lanez’s 2022 trial. “Well, the DNA showed that it could’ve been any of four people. But he sent a text apologizing, and Megan Thee Stallion and her friend Kelsey [Harris], who was there that night, said it was him. What do you do with that?”

Rose responded by saying that Lanez had personally called her from prison and gave her his side of the story. “I heard the whole story from Tory’s mouth. He called me personally from prison,” she said. “I now understand why he said sorry, and it’s not for any shooting at all. I’ll let him tell that story when he comes home, but the sorry was not for what people think it was for.”

Rose’s appearance comes shortly after a May 14 press conference in Los Angeles organized by Unite The People, a nonprofit that provides legal services to incarcerated individuals. During the event, attorney Walter Roberts presented a sworn statement from Bradley James, a man identified as a former security guard for Kelsey Harris. According to Roberts, James claimed he overheard Harris confess to firing the gun during the 2020 incident.

“[Harris] had the gun. [Harris] fired it [at Megan] three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times,” Roberts stated. “In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. Never even touched that gun.” He also cited testimony from the trial’s only independent eyewitness, Sean Kelly, who said he saw two women fighting, followed by gunfire from the vehicle's passenger side.

However, Megan Thee Stallion has consistently maintained that Lanez — whose legal name is Daystar Peterson — was the shooter. Following the recent resurgence of claims disputing the verdict, Megan responded on TikTok with a passionate statement calling out the continued harassment.

“At what point are y’all gonna stop making me have to relive being shot BY TORY?” she wrote. “Why is this happening EVERY DAY? One minute him/y’all said I was never shot — now y’all letting him play in y’all face again and say I was shot but it wasn’t him?”

She continued, “HE AIN’T DARE GET ON THAT STAND AND DENY HE SHOT ME AND THAT WAS HIS CHOICE BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE DID THAT S***! WHY IN TF WOULD ME … MEGAN THEE STALLION HAVE TO LIE ON THE MF ABT SHOOTING ME! How y’all mad at the person that got shot????”

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 of three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
