Community activist Skipp Townsend recently discussed his initial perceptions of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, revealing a missed opportunity to connect due to a misunderstanding. Initially meeting Nipsey, Townsend was put off by the Rollin 60s handshake Nipsey gave. Townsend admits this misjudgment prevented him from getting to know the rapper who was later recognized for his community efforts. While Nipsey was becoming a prominent figure in the community, Townsend was actively working on the ground with the Southern California Ceasefire Committee, mediating street violence. He felt Nipsey wasn't participating in these hands-on efforts, leading to a further divide. However, after Nipsey's tragic death in 2019, Townsend recognized Nipsey's broader vision and impact on the community. Reflecting on this, Townsend acknowledged that he let his perceptions overshadow a chance to understand Nipsey's true contributions and ambitions.
