Jussie Smollett recently opened up about his desire to start a family during a candid interview on The Morning Hustle Show. The Empire star didn’t shy away from discussing his deep longing to become a parent — even entertaining the idea of having a child with a woman.

“I want to have a baby so bad,” Smollett admitted. He went on to say he’s open to doing it “the old-fashioned way,” joking that model Toccara Jones once “made me question all of my choices in life.”

While Smollett has been publicly out as gay since his 2015 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he stated, “There’s never been a closet that I’ve been in,” the actor emphasized that his sexuality doesn’t limit his dreams of fatherhood.

Reflecting further on that pivotal moment with Variety, Smollett explained, “It was a bigger deal to everyone than it was for me. But at the same time, I do understand why it is something to talk about.”

He added, “I didn’t talk to Ellen so that people could be like, ‘Oh my God, let’s see what Jussie does in his bedroom or private life.’ I did it so people would understand they’re not alone. That’s all.”
