Ab-Soul ignited tensions on Tuesday (May 27) with the release of an untitled freestyle posted to his Instagram page. The TDE lyricist sent a pointed warning to East Coast rappers, responding directly to Joey Bada$$’s recent jabs at Kendrick Lamar and the West Coast.
Addressing Joey Bada$$ in a sharp verse, Ab-Soul raps:
“The blogs sayin' the coast done lost, that's a bad look /The homie literally just popped out and set the stage for y’all, what the f***? /I got love for the Beast Coast, well, we the best one — west up /Quit bumpin’ your gums, get back in the booth, stop playing with us (On God).”
While he makes it clear he has respect for the Beast Coast movement, Ab isn’t backing down from defending his region — and Kendrick — from recent criticism.
Later in the track, Ab-Soul pivots to DJ Akademiks, taking a direct shot at the polarizing media personality:
“Carson across my belly, I’ll prove I won already /Bar none, don’t cross the ninety-one without a pass /You gon’ need credentials and premium gas /And I’ma slap Akademiks when I see him.”
Akademiks didn't stay silent, as he clapped back on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Sounds amazing. Just remind that n**** they won't throw a funeral for him like Nipsey. Keep rapping lil n**** we ain’t see u slap nothing yet.”
Akademiks then took things further while speaking about the situation on his live stream, as he told Ab Soul that it would be his "last day on earth" if he raised his hand to harm him.
