Former NBA champion Lamar Odom found himself at the center of controversy this week after attending a private dinner for top investors in President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency venture. The event, held at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, drew a crowd, not just of investors, but also of angry protestors.

As Odom arrived at the venue, he was met with a chorus of boos and heckling. Demonstrators lined the entrance to the exclusive club, waving signs and chanting slogans to shame both the retired basketball star and others in attendance. Protestors shouted "Shame!" and "Hypocrite!" as Odom walked into the event. Some carried signs with phrases like "Don the Con," "No Kings," and “Crypto for Cronies,” voicing their opposition to both Trump’s political comeback and his growing presence in the crypto world.

Odom, however, seemed unfazed by the backlash. Hours before the event, he posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his excitement about participating in the dinner. “Fired up," he wrote. “Think about it – what meme coin has ever done this?” He also used the post to promote his own meme coin project, a move that drew criticism from some online who accused him of capitalizing on political spectacle for personal gain.

After the event, Odom took to X to update his followers, writing, "Reflecting on today’s conversation with President Trump, I’m truly moved. $ODOM is not just a project to me—it’s my conviction. 'Awakening' was never meant to be temporary. It’s a lifelong mission we commit to, with clarity and purpose. Thank you, President Trump, for your support of $ODOM. And thank you to everyone who believes in us. This journey is only just beginning.
