Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team is firing back at the ongoing spread of misinformation surrounding the 2020 shooting incident involving rapper Tory Lanez. In a newly released 31-page report, Megan’s attorney Alex Spiro aims to dismantle what he calls “unsworn rumors being spread as fact,” as supporters of Lanez continue to question the legitimacy of his conviction.
Rolling Stone obtained the legal document, in which Spiro lays out a point-by-point rebuttal of the narratives pushed by Lanez’s camp and online conspiracy theorists. “Despite Mr. Lanez being convicted at trial by overwhelming evidence (that included his own admission of guilt), he and his team — flanked by any ignorant person they can find — have pushed whatever misleading narrative they can,” Spiro wrote. “One by one, their misleading statements unravel and all that is left is the simple truth: he was convicted by overwhelming evidence, and those who seek to traumatize the victim of the crime should be called out as foolish bullies.”
Spiro’s statement emphasizes that the Ring camera footage being touted as new exonerating evidence had already been presented at trial and played no role in challenging the conviction. He also addressed the oft-mischaracterized DNA evidence, clarifying that forensic testing showed a 90 percent probability that the shooter was male, aligning with the jury’s ultimate verdict.
Additionally, Spiro debunked the claim that Kelsey Harris — Megan’s former best friend — allegedly admitted to the shooting, a narrative recently revived by the legal group Unite the People. He stated there was no credible or admissible evidence presented in court to support that theory, and reiterated: “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers, and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system. This is not a political matter — this is a case of a violent assault that was resolved in the court of law.”
Megan Thee Stallion herself addressed the resurfacing of conspiracy theories and online harassment in a recent TikTok post. “At what point are y’all gonna stop making me have to relive being shot BY TORY!?,” she wrote. “At what point are Tory and y’all FANS gonna stop lying?”
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, among other charges, following his conviction in December 2022.
