Remy Ma recently took to Instagram Live to speak candidly with fans about her divorce from longtime husband Papoose, as well as his budding relationship with professional boxer Claressa Shields.
During the livestream, the Bronx rapper didn’t hold back as she described the emotional toll of her marriage and her decision to move on.
“I’ve never breathed so freely,” Remy admitted. “I couldn’t take it anymore. I said, ‘Hey, this isn’t what it is. You can’t keep doing this.’” While she didn’t go into specific details, her tone made it clear that the split was both difficult and necessary.
Remy also commented on Papoose’s new relationship with Shields, offering cryptic but pointed remarks. “People would cry if they knew the truth. I feel sorry for ol’ girl,” she said. “I feel sorry for her because I know the circles that’s being ran and wrapped around over there. I would cry. I feel bad.”
When one viewer criticized her for staying quiet about Papoose’s alleged behavior during their marriage, Remy pushed back. “How am I going out sad? Because I’m not sitting here telling you everything that happened in a marriage?” she replied. “If you’ve never been married, you wouldn’t understand the bond that’s supposed to be between two people. You wouldn’t understand that.”
Her comments came just a day after Claressa Shields appeared on The Breakfast Club, where she addressed the controversy around dating a still-legally-married man. While Shields didn’t dive into the details of Papoose and Remy’s split, she appeared unbothered by the scrutiny. “Oh, I mean, it’s the elephant in the room. I don’t have to say it,” she told the hosts. “We love each other. That’s just what it is.”
Remy Ma and Papoose were once celebrated as a hip-hop power couple, known for their unwavering loyalty to one another—especially during Remy’s incarceration from 2008 to 2014. Papoose famously held her down during that time, and their love story was often cited as a rare example of longevity and devotion in the entertainment world.
