The Breakfast Club weighed in this week on the resurging controversy surrounding Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez’s 2020 shooting case, after new claims emerged suggesting a potential shift in the narrative.

A legal activist group called United the People reignited public discourse last week by asserting they had obtained testimony from Kelsey Harris’ former bodyguard. According to the group, the bodyguard claimed he overheard Harris—Megan’s former best friend—admit to firing the gunshots that injured the rapper in July 2020.

This unverified claim sparked a wave of reactions across social media, with celebrities, influencers, and even some political figures questioning the validity of the original conviction. Many began advocating for Tory Lanez’s release, despite the fact that a jury found him guilty on three felony counts, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023.

Megan Thee Stallion, who has remained relatively quiet since Lanez’s sentencing, broke her silence on Monday night (May 19) with a fiery statement on social media, calling out the renewed attacks on her character and reiterating that Lanez was the one who shot her.

“At what point are y’all gonna stop making me have to relive being shot BY TORY!?” she wrote. “At what point are Tory and y’all FANS gonna stop lying? Like how much is the check to keep harassing me?”

The Houston rapper continued, referencing past conspiracy theories that doubted she was shot at all: “One minute him/y’all said I was never shot, now y’all letting him play in y’all face AGAIN and say I was shot but it wasn’t him? Oh ok…?!”

She ended her post with a powerful rebuttal to those questioning her motives. “WHY IN TF WOULD ME… MEGAN THEE STALLION HAVE TO LIE ON THIS MF ABOUT SHOOTING ME?! How y’all mad at the person that got shot??? FACTS ARE FACTS. He did it. It was PROVEN IN COURT. F--- the hate campaign on the internet. TORY, YOU SHOT ME!!”

On The Breakfast Club, co-host Charlamagne Tha God addressed the controversy with skepticism toward the so-called “new evidence,” and empathy for Megan’s frustration.

“I can understand Megan's frustration,” Charlamagne said. “A court case happened. Due process was followed. Weeks of testimony and evidence were presented. And now all that goes out the window because a driver allegedly overheard Kelsey say something? That only makes sense on the internet.”

He went on to question the logic behind the renewed theory that Kelsey fired the shots. “Why would Tory protect Kelsey?” he asked. “If the argument is, ‘Oh, he didn’t wanna snitch,’ okay—then why would Megan protect Kelsey? None of it adds up.”

As debate continues to rage online, legal experts have yet to weigh in on whether the new claims have any chance of altering Lanez’s conviction. So far, no formal appeal or retrial has been granted based on this alleged testimony.

For Megan, however, the emotional toll of repeatedly defending herself against public doubt remains front and center—and once again, she finds herself forced to relive the most traumatic moment of her life under a new wave of scrutiny.
