Dawn Richard, a former member of the girl group Danity Kane and one of Sean “Diddy” Combs' former artists, took the stand this week during Combs’ ongoing federal trial. In her testimony, she recounted a disturbing incident in 2009, where she says she witnessed Combs physically assault his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
Richard told the court that she and other Danity Kane members were at Combs’ home studio recording music when he became enraged over his breakfast.
"He came downstairs angry and was saying, ‘Where the f*** are my eggs?’"* she recalled.
She described the scene as escalating quickly.
"He was screaming, belligerent, asking where his food was," she testified.
According to Richard, Combs then grabbed a skillet full of eggs and attempted to strike Cassie with it. Cassie curled into a fetal position to protect herself, but Richard said the violence continued.
"He started to punch and kick her — her body and her head."
When asked why she didn’t report the incident to authorities at the time, Richard responded:
"I was scared for her and scared to do anything. I had never seen anything like that before."
She also recalled a conversation she had with Combs afterward.
"He said what we saw was passion — what lovers in passionate relationships do," she testified.
"He said [Cassie] was OK and that it would be in our best interests not to say anything."
Richard added that Combs warned them: "Where he was from, people go missing if they talk."
Her testimony adds to a growing number of allegations against Combs, as the trial continues to reveal disturbing claims about his behavior behind closed doors.
