Drake is publicly showing support for Tory Lanez by sharing a petition that calls for the rapper’s release from prison.
On Friday (May 16), Drake took to his Instagram Story with the message "@torylanez come home soon," linking to a petition titled “Pardon Tory Lanez: Urge Governor Newsom to Correct a Deep Injustice.” The petition, which was originally shared on Lanez’s own platform, has since garnered over 170,000 signatures.
The show of support comes in the wake of disturbing news that Lanez was stabbed 14 times while incarcerated. The attack reportedly required Lanez to be airlifted to a California hospital for emergency treatment. The assailant was identified as 42-year-old Santino Casio, who is serving a life sentence for murder.
Just days after the incident, a nonprofit legal advocacy group called Unite the People claimed to possess new evidence that could potentially exonerate Lanez in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
Walter Roberts, a lead consultant with the organization, stated that a man named Bradley James came forward with information. James, who allegedly served as the bodyguard for Megan’s former friend Kelsey Harris, claimed he witnessed Harris admit to firing the weapon.
