Chris Brown was arrested early Thursday morning (May 15) in Manchester, England, in connection with a violent nightclub altercation that occurred in 2023. The 36-year-old singer is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London.

The arrest took place around 2 a.m. at the five-star Lowry Hotel. Brown was taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains detained.

According to Diaw, the alleged assault was unprovoked. He claims Brown struck him over the head multiple times with a tequila bottle before punching and kicking him. "He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well," Diaw told The Sun, adding that the incident required hospitalization.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police also provided a statement to The Sun: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
