Harlem rapper Charles Hamilton is speaking out after launching a GoFundMe campaign, citing mental health challenges and the impact of policies enacted during Donald Trump’s presidency as reasons for seeking public support.
In a candid explanation, Hamilton shared that his government benefits were significantly reduced during Trump’s time in office, forcing him to consider traditional employment—something he says is difficult due to his ongoing struggles with anxiety and schizophrenia.
“I would do horrible in the workplace,” Hamilton admitted, adding that he thrives best in a controlled environment focused on music production. He expressed concern that being forced to take a job would hinder his creative output.
The GoFundMe page, written by a close associate, paints a picture of Hamilton’s current situation and goals:
“Good day, StarChasers!! Charles has been doing great—staying healthy and following his doctors’ and social workers’ guidance. We’d been considering launching a GoFundMe to help him get some instruments, but with recent changes to his food assistance, we had to fast-track the plan.
Any donations—through GoFundMe or his Cash App ($1withthetalented)—will go toward groceries for the next month or two. If there’s enough leftover, Charles hopes to purchase a drum machine, keyboard, bass, and guitar to continue building out his sound. Instrument donations are also welcome!
Charles has his own place now and is rebuilding his studio from the ground up. He’s sitting on 30 to 40 unreleased projects, and the new music is ‘craaazy’! If you can help, please spread the word and hit that donate button. It’s always all love!”
Hamilton, who rose to prominence in the late 2000s with hits like "Brooklyn Girls", has been open about his battles with mental illness. His transparency in this latest update has sparked a wave of support from longtime fans and followers.
