On Monday (May 12), news broke that rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized in critical condition after being stabbed in prison. The rapper is serving a 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi after he was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Initial details were scarce, but later that day, Lanez’s team issued a statement via his official Instagram account, revealing the severity of his injuries. “Tory was stabbed 14 times – including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus,” the statement read.

Fortunately, his condition has since improved. “He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued support,” the post continued.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. Monday morning. “Staff immediately responded, activated 911, and began medical aid,” the department said in a statement to USA Today. Lanez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

As of now, no further details have been released about the motive or suspect(s) involved in the attack.
