Rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent has publicly distanced himself from former G-Unit affiliate Bang Em Smurf, following a headline from The Sun that referred to Smurf as his "rapper pal." The article reported that Smurf, whose real name is Daniel Calliste, is residing in a taxpayer-funded hotel in the UK while seeking asylum after fleeing gang violence in Trinidad.

Sharing a screenshot of the headline on Instagram, 50 Cent wrote, "I haven’t spoken to this guy in 23 years, I hate that my name is attached to this. I in no way have any association or connection to gangs. I AM NOT GANG GANG! 🤔 And to you tuff guys, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY."

Bang Em Smurf was once a close associate of 50 Cent and a founding member of G-Unit. However, their relationship soured in the early 2000s, reportedly due to internal conflicts and Smurf's legal issues. In 2004, Smurf was incarcerated for gun possession and subsequently deported to Trinidad upon his release.

In recent years, Smurf has made several public allegations against 50 Cent. In a 2016 interview, he claimed that 50 Cent had put a hit out on him, stating that someone who had previously attempted to shoot him appeared in 50 Cent's "I'm the Man" music video, which he took as confirmation of the alleged plot . Smurf also criticized 50 Cent's character and authenticity, accusing him of losing respect in the streets and surrounding himself with individuals lacking credibility.

As for his current situation, Smurf arrived in the UK in late 2024, claiming asylum due to threats from gangs in Trinidad. He is reportedly staying at a four-star Novotel hotel near Stevenage, Hertfordshire, which is being used to house refugees. While his asylum application has been denied, he remains in the UK pending further proceedings. During his stay, Smurf has launched a clothing brand and engaged in various public events, including podcasts and a boxing event.

The UK Home Office has declined to comment on individual cases, but the situation has drawn public scrutiny due to the rising costs associated with housing asylum seekers.
