Legendary singer Smokey Robinson is facing a $50 million civil lawsuit filed by four former employees who accuse him of multiple instances of sexual misconduct spanning more than a decade.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Robinson issued a brief statement: “I am appalled. I can’t speak about this right now.”

The lawsuit, filed by four women identified as Jane Does, alleges that Robinson sexually assaulted them while they were employed as housekeepers for him and his wife, Frances Robinson. The plaintiffs accuse Robinson of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender-based violence, and maintaining a hostile work environment over the course of nearly 20 years.

According to the filing, Robinson “repeatedly forced his fingers and penis into their vaginas, causing severe and excruciating pain,” and did so without consent. The suit further alleges he used “physical barriers, force, threats of force,” and tactics such as locking bedroom doors to prevent the women from leaving during the alleged assaults.

Frances Robinson is also named in the suit. The plaintiffs claim she had “full knowledge of [Robinson’s] prior acts of sexual misconduct” and failed to take corrective action—even after reportedly settling with other women who had accused Robinson of similar abuse.

In addition to the sexual assault allegations, the women claim they were not paid minimum wage or overtime during their years of employment. The alleged incidents occurred between 2012 and 2024.
