Jay-Z is firing back at attorney Tony Buzbee and a Jane Doe who previously accused him of sexual assault, alleging that the claims were false and part of a calculated attempt to damage his reputation and secure a financial settlement.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit earlier this year alleging that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted her after an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, has denied the allegations and filed an amended complaint asserting that Buzbee manipulated the situation for personal and professional gain.

In the court filing, Jay-Z accused Buzbee of encouraging Jane Doe to pursue what he described as a baseless claim in hopes of a quick payout. “Buzbee pushed her toward going forward with the false story against Mr. Carter,” the filing states.

The rapper also alleged that Buzbee engaged in unethical tactics to influence public perception. According to the lawsuit, Buzbee directed his staff to make coordinated edits to Wikipedia pages to elevate his own image while damaging Jay-Z’s and Roc Nation’s reputations. “Users with an IP address directly linked to the Buzbee Firm made over 100 positive edits to Buzbee’s Wikipedia page,” the complaint alleges.

Although the lawsuit was ultimately dropped, the accuser maintained that her claims were legitimate. “Although I ultimately chose not to pursue them, I stand by my claims in the New York Action and believe that I had a meritorious claim against Jay-Z,” she said in a statement. “I was not prepared to undergo years of attacks, intimidation, and harassment, and ultimately chose to dismiss my claims after certain negotiations among the attorneys involved.”

Jay-Z’s legal team is seeking damages and accountability for what they describe as a targeted smear campaign intended to exploit his celebrity status.
