Ryan Garcia’s return to the ring ended in heartbreak on Saturday night (May 3), as cameras captured the boxer in tears inside a sprinter van following his unanimous decision loss to Rolly Romero.

This marked Garcia’s first fight back after serving a one-year doping ban for testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine. But the highly anticipated comeback didn’t go as planned. Garcia was dropped in the second round and struggled to find his rhythm, with Romero outboxing him through much of the fight to secure the win.

After the bout, Garcia showed grace in defeat, crediting his opponent. "He fought a good fight; caught me early. No excuses, man. Congrats to him — he did a great job."

Garcia also reflected on the impact of his time away from the sport. "I just think that whole year took a lot off my body physically and mentally," he admitted.

The emotional toll was clear. Footage showed Garcia sitting with his head in his hands, appearing to wipe away tears as the weight of the loss set in.
