Part 1: Derrick Grace II on Dad Being Secret Service for Obama & Bush, Robbing Homes & Cars at 8
--------
Derrick Grace II discusses how he launched a retail business with just $1,500 and initially struggled to make a profit. In 2012, at 22, Grace found himself unemployed with two young children, a house, and two cars. One day in a mall, observing the hype around sneaker releases, he made a spontaneous profit purchasing and reselling shoes. This insight led to his idea of starting a retail business, particularly focusing on a clothing line that matches sneakers' colorways. Grace received $1,500 to invest in the venture, spending it on creating a logo, trademarking, and producing t-shirts. Despite a clever business model, it took Grace nine months to make his first sale. Reflecting on the early challenges, he acknowledges the difficulty of the sneaker flipping industry, highlighting its competitiveness and unpredictable profit margins.
