Fans worldwide were stunned by the tragic death of Atlanta rapper Young Scooter, who passed away after suffering a fatal leg injury while allegedly attempting to evade police by jumping a fence.

Atlanta Police Lieutenant Andrew Smith addressed the incident in a press conference, aiming to dispel misinformation that had quickly spread online. According to Smith, officers responded to reports of gunfire and allegations that a woman had been dragged into a residence.

"When officers arrived, they knocked on the door. A male opened the door and immediately shut it on them," Smith stated. "As officers established a perimeter, two males fled out the back of the house. One returned inside, while the other jumped two fences in an attempt to escape. When officers located him on the other side, he appeared to have suffered a severe leg injury."

Smith emphasized that Young Scooter’s injury was not caused by law enforcement. "To be very clear, the injury was sustained while the individual was fleeing, not due to any action by officers on the scene," he added.

Young Scooter later succumbed to his injuries, a case that orthopedic specialist Dr. Craig Weil described as "extremely rare." Speaking to 11Alive, Dr. Weil explained that if the rapper’s femur fractured, the sharp bone could have severed his femoral artery—a potentially fatal condition. He noted that only 10-15% of such cases result in death, making Young Scooter’s passing an unfortunate and unusual tragedy.
