Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is at the center of controversy after the NFL announced a crackdown on his signature “nose wipe” touchdown celebration. The league has officially banned the gesture, stating that it will now result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
According to the NFL, the motion is classified as a “violent gesture” and is reportedly associated with gang symbolism, specifically linked to the Bloods as a sign indicating someone is untrustworthy.
The decision was outlined in a rules report sent to teams this week, referencing Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(d). The rule states:
"Any violent gesture, which shall include but not be limited to a throat slash, simulating firing or brandishing a gun, or using the 'nose wipe' gesture, or an act that is sexually suggestive or offensive."
Lamb, who has been using the gesture since his rookie season in 2020, took to Twitter to react to the ban. Rather than expressing frustration, he remained unfazed, writing, "smh, i have plenty in mind."
While the NFL's move has sparked debate among fans and analysts, Lamb’s response suggests he’s already planning new ways to celebrate in the end zone. With his dynamic playmaking ability, it’s only a matter of time before he unveils his next signature move—one that hopefully won’t land him in hot water with the league.
