Sauce Walka is speaking out for the first time after being shot over the weekend.

The Houston rapper was shot outside the Westin Hotel near the FedExForum in Memphis on Saturday (March 22) in what police believe was a targeted attack. The shooting also claimed the life of 27-year-old rapper Latorian Hunt, known as Sayso P, who was signed to Sauce Walka's label.

Authorities confirmed that Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was shot in the thigh and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His father later spoke to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU, expressing gratitude for his son’s survival, stating, “Had it not been for God, my son would've been dead.”

Following the incident, the Memphis Police Department issued a statement to reassure the public:
“We want to assure our community and visitors that downtown Memphis is a safe place. This incident was not a random act of violence. Early indications are that the victims and suspects are known to each other. We understand the public’s concern and reiterate that this was not a random act. MPD is committed to bringing those responsible to justice and will be utilizing downtown camera footage and other technology available to aid in identifying everyone involved.”

At this time, no arrests have been made, but authorities are actively searching for a getaway car and suspects connected to the shooting.
