Kristel Candelario has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the aggravated murder of her 16-month-old daughter, Jailyn, who died after being left unattended for 10 days while Candelario went on vacation. Candelario pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and endangering children charges. Upon returning home on June 16, 2023, Candelario found Jailyn unresponsive in her playpen, which was filled with soiled blankets and feces.

Dr. Elizabeth Mooney determined that Jailyn died from starvation and severe dehydration due to neglect. Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley condemned Candelario's actions, describing them as "unimaginable selfishness." Candelario expressed remorse at her sentencing, stating that she was suffering during that time and seeking forgiveness from God and her daughter.
