Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has won his appeal in a London court against his 2014 murder conviction, according to the BBC. The decision follows Palmer and his co-defendants' final appeal at the Privy Council in London, the highest court of appeal in Jamaica and other Commonwealth nations. Palmer has been incarcerated since 2011 in connection with the disappearance of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Despite no body being found, Palmer was convicted in 2014 alongside three co-defendants after a lengthy trial in Kingston, Jamaica. Initially sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years, Palmer's sentence was later reduced to 32-and-a-half years on appeal. The UK Privy Council has directed Jamaica's Court of Appeal to determine whether Palmer and his co-defendants should be granted a retrial.
