The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was definitely a night to remember for Lil Mama. In a recent interview on the The Jay Hill Podcast, she opened up about her experience at the event, including what was going through her mind when she crashed Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' performance.

Lil Mama clarified that she was actually sober that night and in good spirits. Reflecting on Kanye West's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, she shared her thoughts on the situation. Lil Mama empathized with Kanye, explaining that he may have felt the need to express himself passionately in the moment.

Drawing parallels between the music industry and corporate workplaces, Lil Mama highlighted the pressure to conform and the fear of being scrutinized for speaking out. She related to Kanye's need to speak his mind, even if it meant facing backlash.

The rapper also expressed regret about missing several memorable performances at the event, including Janet Jackson's emotional tribute to Michael Jackson. Her late arrival meant that she missed out on witnessing historic moments unfold on stage. You can hear more above.
