Veteran U.S. Army Ranger Nicholas Irving believes that the US cannot compete with China on the ground, addressing concern over the possibility of an electronic war and the weakness of the U.S. power grid. Irving foresees that any conflict with China would be waged not through conventional warfare but electronically, with the power grid as a significant target. The consequences of a power grid shutdown would plunge most Americans into darkness and confusion, leading to societal chaos. Furthermore, Irving acknowledges China's numerical advantage in terms of ground troops. He also highlighted his concerns over hacking threats, citing previous cyberattacks from both China and Russia. He believes that America's power grid is outdated and could easily be compromised in a cyberattack. Irving proposed that if an enemy nation wanted to harm the U.S., it could succeed through electronic warfare rather than a traditional military assault.
