In recent weeks, Texas has been at the center of attention due to its disagreement with the Biden administration on how to tackle the influx of migrants at the southern border. However, new data has revealed a significant shift in the flow of migrants crossing into the United States illegally. According to internal federal government figures, the majority of unlawful crossings are now being reported in Arizona and California, with Texas experiencing a decrease in numbers.

For the week ending February 4, the Border Patrol reported an average of 1,800 daily apprehensions in the Tucson sector of Arizona and 1,200 in the San Diego sector of California. On the other hand, the El Paso and Rio Grande sectors in Texas now expect to average between 500 and 800 apprehensions each day, with the Del Rio sector reporting 200 apprehensions per day.

Governor Abbott of Texas has responded to this shift by fortifying the border town of Eagle Pass with razor wire, shipping containers, and other barriers to impede the passage of migrants. He has also indicated plans to expand these measures to other parts of Texas. The governor's aim is to deter illegal crossings and defend the state against what he describes as an "invasion."
