N.W.A. has found themselves seeing massive success as well as scrutiny in the form of the government issuing warnings to them due to the content in their music. However, the legendary rap group kept pushing the envelope in hip-hop, carving a new form of expression with gangsta rap. Now, the crew will be honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys.
The Recording Academy announced that N.W.A. will be among recipients like Donna Summer, Gladys Knight, and the Clark Sisters. While speaking about the award, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said, “Their contributions to music span genres, backgrounds and crafts, reflecting the rich diversity that fuels our creative community. We look forward to honoring these music industry trailblazers next month as part of our week-long celebration leading up to Music’s Biggest Night.”
Previously, acts like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, and Slick Rick were given the honor.
