While speaking to the New York Times, ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The Color Purple’ actor Colman Domingo revealed that he was passed on for a role in ‘Boardwalk Empire’ due to not being light-skinned.

Domingo auditioned for the role of a maitre d’ in a Black-owned nightclub. His audition found him wearing a tuxedo and tap dancing, and producers noted they loved his audition. However, the actor’s agent called him after saying producers were informed by a historical researcher on the show that maitre d’s in the clubs during those times were usually light-skinned. Because of that, the show passed on Domingo.

At that point, Colman revealed he was ready to walk away from acting forever. However, his push kept him going, landing him a pivotal role in ‘Euphoria.’
