According to prosecutors, a father of three from Michigan shot and injured his ex-girlfriend's new partner after delivering Christmas gifts to his children. Deandre Patrick Lawrence, 23, was taken into custody for allegedly shooting the new boyfriend in the back during a heated confrontation on Monday morning.

The day started on a festive note as Lawrence visited his ex-girlfriend's home to drop off presents for their three children. However, the atmosphere turned tense when a dispute arose between Lawrence and the new boyfriend, who also resided in the house, as per the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The altercation escalated, leading the new boyfriend to flee the residence with Lawrence in pursuit. During the pursuit, Lawrence reportedly fired two shots into the back of the victim after he tripped and fell. Although the victim survived, he sustained critical injuries, as reported by WDIV.

Deandre Patrick Lawrence now faces charges of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm. At his arraignment on Wednesday, a $1 million bond was set, with a stipulation that Lawrence, if released, must have no contact with the victim or witnesses. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido expressed that violent actions have no place in resolving disputes and conveyed condolences to the victim and his family. Lucido also pledged to ensure accountability for the Christmas Day shooting.

Lawrence's next court appearance is scheduled for January 4, 2024.
