A 26-year-old man from Texas, Kendell Morris, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a failed murder attempt. In May 2020, Morris allegedly traveled from Houston to Arlington with the intent to kill the new boyfriend of the mother of his child. Despite never having met the boyfriend and having only a vague physical description, Morris opened fire, mistakenly killing 24-year-old Robert Cooley III in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The victim was not the intended target. Morris was arrested in Madisonville, and an AR-15 rifle was found in his car. Cooley, described as an exceptional athlete and musician, had aspirations of making it big in the music industry.
