Hend Bustami, a woman from Las Vegas, has been sentenced to 15 years to life for second-degree murder after confessing to killing her mother, Afaf Hussanen, in their shared Las Vegas home in August 2022. Bustami, 29, pleaded "guilty but mentally ill" in October 2022. Although she was able to stand trial, a psychologist identified her as experiencing "intermittent exacerbations of psychosis" and in need of ongoing psychiatric treatment.

After the murder, Bustami called the police and confessed, but upon their arrival, she had fled the scene. She was later arrested near Barstow, California. In a prior incident in August 2022, she was arrested for not paying her tab at a restaurant in Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas. During that arrest, she claimed she was being apprehended because she was too "pretty" and made unfounded accusations against the officers.

Bustami pleaded guilty to additional charges, including burglary, invasion of the home, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, sale of a controlled substance, or gaming crimes. She may be eligible for parole as early as 2037.
