Previously, the New Orleans Pelicans claimed that Zion Williamson “ignored” their requests to improve his diet and condition his body during the season and in the offseason. Since then, Charles Barkley, Shaq, and Stephen A. Smith publicly called out Williamson for his weight.
Now, it has been reported that the player’s final three years in his contract are no longer guaranteed, due to only being able to play in 29 games last season. Williamson missing over 22 games last season activated a clause that turned the money he’s owed in the next three seasons to a non-guaranteed status.
Along with that, the New Orleans Pelicans have the ability to waive Zion Williamson after the 2024-2025 season with no financial issue. It was noted Zion will be able to re-solidify his contract guarantees if he hits checkpoints on weigh-ins and also appears in a certain number of games. Stay tuned for more updates.
