Carlos Mencia shares his journey to discovering comedy during his busy schedule as a full-time student and worker. Comedy was a foreign concept to him until he watched Joan Rivers on Fox. Inspired by comedians such as Louie Anderson, he'd share jokes with his colleagues, one of whom suggested he try stand-up, sparking his interest in the comedic circuit.

He felt an instant connection with stand-up, describing it as a liberating experience where he could freely share his thoughts, unlike at home where his comments were often curtailed. These experiences and cultural observations shaped his comedic sense and style. He would later incorporate these reflections into his work during his show, Mind of Mencia. Mencia’s career in comedy, though initially unintended, was born out of his innate ability to see the humor in everyday life.
