In a shocking incident that unfolded last night in South Memphis, a FedEx truck was targeted by brazen thieves who made off with an as-yet-unknown number of boxes. The incident occurred at a busy intersection, where the driver was unable to escape before the thieves pounced on the truck. Fox 13's Leia Scott brings us the live report from the scene.
The theft occurred at the intersection of Mallerie and Riverport Road at approximately 8:30 p.m. Video footage captured the FedEx truck stuck at the intersection, surrounded by several cars that blocked its path. The driver reported that multiple individuals broke the sealed latch on the truck and began pilfering the packages with impunity. As the driver attempted to break free, the thieves ran after the truck, jumping onto it to snatch more items.
FedEx, when contacted for a statement, highlighted the safety of their staff members as their top priority. They emphasized their commitment to the security and well-being of their customers and assured that they are cooperating fully with the police investigation. The company expressed gratitude that no serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
