In a surprising turn of events early in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, major business deals are already shaping the league. After high-profile trades like Damian Lillard joining the Milwaukee Bucks and top draft pick Victor Wembanyama debuting with the San Antonio Spurs, the latest buzz surrounds Kim Kardashian and her SKIMS brand, which has become a significant player in the NBA.
On Monday, the NBA and SKIMS revealed a multiyear partnership, designating the clothing brand as the official underwear supplier for both the NBA and WNBA.
Kim Kardashian, the co-founder and creative director of SKIMS, expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "Together, SKIMS and the NBA will connect people of all backgrounds through fashion, sport, and talent." SKIMS promptly established itself in the men's sportswear market by launching SKIMS Men's on October 26th, with Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander serving as a prominent ambassador.
The WNBA, too, anticipates significant growth through this partnership. "There is no better time to be joining the league as a partner, and we are excited to work with SKIMS, a brand that has quickly cemented its status as a cultural centerpiece, to elevate each other's brands and celebrate female athletes and their impact in society," remarked WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Englebert announced that SKIMS would showcase its partnership at various events, including the upcoming NBA In-Season Tournament, NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, and the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona.
