Cypress Hill has carved out a lane for themselves throughout their career, cementing themselves as one of the most successful rap groups of all time. Now, producer DJ Muggs has claimed the group during an interview, noting the crew introduced rhyming about marijuana into the world of hip-hop.
While speaking with AllHipHop, Muggs noted that before Cypress’ foray into the world of rap, no one was talking that talk about weed. “Back then, everybody was smoking weed, but nobody was talking about in their lyrics,” said Muggs.
The legendary producer continued, “We were the first ones who started mentioning weed in our lyrics, now everybody does it. Even if you want to go back to the first Source Awards, we were rocking tattoos before anybody. I like to go away from the norm, myself. If nobody’s doing that, then I’m doing that. If everybody’s doing it, then I’m doing something else.”
