In a significant development, a Broward judge has removed Assistant State Attorney Kristine Bradley, the lead prosecutor, from the Jamell “YNW Melly” Demons double murder retrial. Bradley has been named as a defense witness, possibly challenging the credibility of one of Demons' key accusers. Circuit Judge John J. Murphy ruled that Bradley couldn't serve as lead prosecutor if there was a chance she might testify for the defense.
Murphy's decision, however, rejected the defense's attempt to disqualify State Attorney Harold Pryor and two key deputies from the case. Despite concerns over conflicting statements regarding a search warrant execution, Murphy stated that there was no evidence of a cover-up. The trial's retrial is pressing forward, with prosecutors required to begin jury selection by the end of the following week. Both sides are set to return to court for a scheduling conference.
