Ronnie Caldwell, a junior safety and college football player at Northwestern State University, tragically lost his life in a shooting near the university's campus in Louisiana. The incident occurred around 1:08 a.m., and Caldwell, who was just 21 years old, was found with gunshot wounds.

Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased. The Natchitoches Police Department is actively investigating the shooting. The Northwestern State football team mourned his loss by canceling their upcoming game against Nicholls State.

Northwestern State's head coach, Brad Laird, expressed deep sorrow, describing Caldwell as a promising young man both on and off the field. Caldwell, who had transferred from Tyler Junior College, had contributed significantly in the previous season but had been sidelined this season due to a preseason injury.
