In a shocking and disturbing case in Queens, Stephen Giraldo has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for intentionally running over his estranged wife, Sophia Giraldo, with an SUV before stabbing her in front of their three children. Sophia, 41 years old, suffered severe neurological damage and remains in a coma as a result of the attack that occurred on December 27. Stephen, 36 years old, addressed Sophia at his sentencing, claiming that he forgives her for not respecting him as her pre-designated husband or honoring him as a good and loving father.
The attack, captured on security camera footage, showed Stephen driving into Sophia with the SUV, causing the car to turn on its side. Prosecutors stated that he then climbed over one of their children to stab Sophia in the chest. Stephen pleaded guilty to attempted murder, with his attorney citing mental health issues as a contributing factor. However, this does not justify his heinous actions.
Unfortunately, Sophia's children will have to live with this traumatic event for the rest of their lives. The impact of witnessing their mother being viciously attacked by their father is unimaginable. Sophia remains in a coma, and her family is left grappling with the pain caused by this senseless act of violence.
