Donald Trump has always had an interesting relationship with the hip-hop community. Before Trump became the 45th President of the United States, he was embraced by rap moguls such as P. Diddy while also being mentioned in songs from rappers such as Jeezy, 50 Cent, and the late Mac Miller. However, during his rise up the ranks of the Republican party in the late 2010s, his rhetoric divided many communities, including hip-hop.
Although he was villanized by artists like Eminem for his commentary and policies, other big names in the rap game, such as Kodak Black, Lil Pump, and DJ Akademiks, have become staunch supporters as he gears up for another run to become the Republican's Presidential nominee.
During a recent interview with Theo Von on his podcast (This Past Weekend), Sexyy Red, perhaps the hottest rapper of 2023, revealed why she is amongst the rappers who support Donald Trump as a political figure. The "2023 BET Hip Hop Awards" indicated that although some of Trump's previous statements came across as racist and sexist, the Hood embraced him once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving out free money.
