Chris Brown recently linked up with Ciara on her new single "How We Roll," which led to Ciara receiving backlash on social media for working with Brown.

Amid the uproar online, Chris took to Instagram to address cancel culture and people trying to cancel him for years. He wrote in his Stories, "WEIRDOS: didn’t we cancel Chris Brown? Me: IM STILL ALIVE [smirking face emoji]."

This isn't the first time Ciara has received backlash for working with Brown, as she dropped the song "Turntables" from her 2009 album, Fantasy Ride, amid the Rihanna assault incident. Ciara addressed putting the song out, stating, "You know what it is? Honestly, with that record, it's just more about the music for me. I wanted to focus on the music and leave it at that, because it's a record that I've had for a while, I love the way it sounds and it's one of my most favorite records on the album. And if I alter it, it's not gonna sound the same. So for me, really it's nothing more than about the music, so I kept it there."

Ciara also collaborated with Chris on a Michael Jackson tribute for the 2022 American Music Awards, which ended up never happening amid backlash at the time. The AMAs addressed the situation in a statement, which read, "Live shows change all the time, it’s the nature of this business; unfortunately, this element of the AMAs didn’t come together as we couldn’t align on the performance, to no fault of Chris Brown."
