According to reports, at least 40 teens have been charged for their participation in what is being described as a "reckless gathering" in the South Loop section of Chicago.
Authorities say a large group of teens congregated at a local 7 Eleven store where they “became disorderly and disregarded multiple verbal commands by police to disperse.”
The majority of those charged face misdemeanors, including criminal trespassing, obstructing identification, resisting arrest, and curfew violations. However, per NBC Chicago, "A 15-year-old faces a felony charge of unlawful possession of a concealed weapon, along with possession of an illegal gun accessory and a count of disorderly conduct." Additionally, "a 17-year-old also faces a felony charge of unlawful possession of an automatic weapon, along with citations for possession of a high-capacity magazine."
Authorities also noted that several adults could face charges related to the gathering.
