The statement reads: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
Sinéad released ten albums over the course of her career, with the biggest being I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, which featured "Nothing Compares 2 U," written by Prince. The album sold over seven million copies worldwide.
In 1992, Sinéad made waves across the world after she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II during her performance on Saturday Night Live. The incident led to her being banned for life on NBC, but in 2021, Sinéad stood by her actions, telling the New York Times, "I'm not sorry I did it. It was brilliant."
Sinéad was married four times and had four children. Her son Shane died in 2022.
