Although Netflix has struck gold with original series such as DAMHER, Wednesday, and Stranger Things, the world's most popular streaming service also has its fair share of shortcomings, such as the cancellation of The Get Down after two seasons and the poorly received live-action remake of the classic Death Note anime. Amid the recent news that Netflix no longer intends to move forward with a live-action rendition of The Last Airbender comes the announcement that they have also scrapped similar plans for He-Man after spending $30 million in preproduction for a film that already cast Kyle Allen (West Side Story) as the leading man. Despite the setback, Mattel (the proprietor of the He-Man franchise), the entertainment company, is rumored to be searching for a new platform to bring the classic 2D cartoon to life. Mattel is expected to cash in big time at the box office with the highly anticipated release of Barbie this week. The movie has already received rave reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, and its success could go a long way in determining if He-Man makes it to the silver screen instead of a steaming service as initially planned.
