A landscaper named Hector Mayoral (37) was left severely injured while working in a neighborhood of Torrance, California (19 miles south of Los Angeles) with his brother, Ernesto. The on-camera incident occurred on few days after the 4th of July when Hector spotted what appeared to be a piece of trash near his work truck. So, he casually picked it up, not knowing that it was a firework, and it exploded in his hand. The force of the explosion demolished most of his hand while causing his flesh to melt away.

“It was gruesome,” said Ken Lucas, a local resident whose home security cameras filmed the horrific event. “There were fingers in the street and a lot of flesh parts in the street...“I ran into the garage; I grabbed a strap, and I ran across the street and wrapped it around the gardener’s arm."

Before the incident, Hector worked multiple jobs to maintain financial stability in landscaping and the culinary industry. Now that his vision has been impaired due to the accident, he's concerned that his livelihood may be in jeapardy.

His family has since started a GoFundMe campaign to cover his medical expenses. To help,  click here.
