Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, announced that they are separating after 29 years of marriage. However, McCray says that she and Bill are not divorcing and will continue sharing their Brooklyn home while they date other people.
Chirlane confirmed the news of their separation in a text to The Associated Press, and she and Bill had a joint interview with the New York Times to speak about their mutual decision. She explained that they made the decision after feeling the spark go out of their marriage.
McCray explained, "You can’t fake it. You can feel when things are off, and you don’t want to live that way." She added, "As very public people embarking on a new chapter, we thought it better to say all this openly before anyone tries to find negativity, or before any misunderstandings occur."
